From Bweya to Mubende as a cattle farmer

From Bweya to Mubende as a cattle farmer

A story on Isaac Atekateka’s resettlement & Empowerment.

Isaac joined CSU in 2014 after his Mother had disappeared leaving Isaac of only eight months old in the hands of his ailing grandparents who on failing to trace the whereabouts of the parents sought help from BCH.

After spending close to seven years at BCH, Isaac was early last year re-integrated with his cultural family which is located in Mubende close to 125 miles from the capital city Kampala. A young boy who all long desired to participate in his family’s most popular economic activity, Isaac was always praying for an opportunity to do cattle rearing, the exact traditional activity from his family. This opportunity came during the school lockdown when Isaac benefited from the family empowerment program where a young bull was bought for him to look after. If cows could speak, then this very cow would have said ‘ thank you.

He really has a passion for cattle, talks to it as if it’s a fellow human being, and most of the time he forgets that he has to eat only to be reminded. He dreams of having more cattle. ‘More Cattle means more riches thus more happiness’ he said.

Be it during sunshine, be it raining, Isaac is up in arms to take care of the cow.
